Duel KTM 1050 Adventure vs Suzuki V-Strom 1000

Duel KTM 1050 Adventure vs. Suzuki V-Strom 1000
The Duel
Suzuki brought the V-Strom 1000 as a new top model of the in-house travel enduro range, KTM positioned the brand new 1050 adventure, however, as a basic model of the adventure series. Two completely contrary starting points and yet a lot in common, such as the 1000 HP-comparison test shows. The fact that the technological development of motorcycles obviously is far from being the end in sight, it shows in this year's season 2015 especially strong: Superbikes with over 200 hp and electronics foreshadow of the WM-machines that the engineers a "reicht's Now but then "determined not accept. Even supposedly cozy enduros now come with incredible 160 PS and electronics packages, therefore, have been built a few years ago not even in luxury cars.

But it is precisely in such good years, the question arises: How much do you actually need motorbike? Suzuki ventured with the new V-Strom1000 an amazing (re) step, with only 100 hp at 8000 tours the Japanese was far from being able to offer the increasing competition forehead. Instead, they attracted the best value in the category of large touring enduro - and lured them well, gave the excellent sales figures and give Suzuki quite right.

Of course, this success was also ahead of its competitors not hidden and then KTM, the V-Strom 1000 resolved neatly to make pressure with the 1050 adventure. Their advantage is that they descended from the great 1190er- and even 1290s-sisters whose prestige naturally rubs off on the "small" in 1050. Would not the bold lettering 1050, it could also be a 1190er. However, you should be embarrassed for the 1050 Adventure not that athletic performance is also with her in the foreground and makes the entry level to serious alternative.

Vaulis reviewing KTM 1050 Adventure and Suzuki V-Strom 1000:
Since I already drove the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 in the previous year as faithful Took provider, I know how well it works and how little tuning is required to make it work excellent. Actually, it's only slightly larger windshield and you can already go on trips. With the KTM 1050 Adventure is now suddenly a more straightforward and relatively cheap travel enduro at the start, which can do more to catch up with the much stronger rivals with their sportier character.

That they once 5hp wengier than the Suzuki has 95 bhp, you can feel not until 6000 tours they behave even more like its 150-hp sister 1190 Adventure, until the euphoria of the engine subsides rapidly. After all, the torque of 107 Newton meters is impressive at just under 6,000 tours. Since the V-Strom scores but almost more, its 103 Newton meters are already at 4000 rpm and provide an even more pronounced sovereignty. In revs the Austrian makes namely not such a good figure as the Japanese. Serve with the remaining performance of the V-Strom: stable, secure and with a comfortable sitting position, which makes for long stretches joy.

The KTM contrast, celebrates the fun of motorcycling, with 16 kilograms less weight and their more active seating position it is far more agile around corners and behaves on request almost like a Supermoto. Of course you can also go with it quite comfortably on long trips, though not as convenient as with the Suzuki.

In electronics, the KTM 1050 Adventure benefited from her pedigree: adjustment and switchable traction control, different power modes and a disconnectable ABS are not bad for a basic version, as the Suzuki can not quite keep up. However, it also has an adjustable traction control and ABS as standard on board. The brakes, the two did not pay much, both the Suzuki and KTM in the high braking power can be generated with very little hand strength, the metering is perfectly in both.

Overall, I would choose as a friend of athletic gait the KTM, the "downsizing" a surprising amount of the larger sisters has remained and longer distances thanks to the long suspension travel nor martyrdom. However, the Suzuki is still the best offers in its class, which offers the typical Japanese virtues of reliability and simplicity - and it attracts well known ...

K.OTs reviewing KTM 1050 Adventure and Suzuki V-Strom 1000:
When the V-Strom 1000 ABS was presented with only 100hp, many were disappointed. As the KTM 1050 Adventure with only 95 hp came, too. But different. At the edge was clear that this was a stripped down version of the two larger sisters in 1190 and 1290, the "play all Fragmenting" with electronic mainframe on board in good German. The Suzuki was a real surprise.

As the major powers of the two-wheeler industry were about to overpower each other with seemingly endless capacity upgrade their Bigenduros suddenly Suzuki stepped confidently with the disused V-Strom 1000 in the crossfire and displaced the warmongers briefly in state of shock. Was that intentional, that with the 100 hp? Yes, just as it was intended to deliver 103 Nm at just 4000 tours. Suzuki recalled something that some had already forgotten: usable power. For this purpose a decent chassis, comfort, a thought-out ergonomics and disconnectable ABS as three-stage traction control (which works well even on gravel) as standard. A bit of accessories and in 80 days around the world is the no brainer.

KTM chose a different approach. It is actually the new old Adventure. 1190er and 1290s are already so over-the-top that the 1050s small and slight effect, what it is not entirely. One has to wonder how it could come so far that we have performance-oriented 95 PS from a V2 in a Bigenduro with rally chassis and only 212 kg fully fueled (to) happen little anyway. Also has an ABS and a multi-stage traction control on board, but it is considerably more powerful aligned, as the V-Strom. Immediately I have the feeling to race against the time when I am wed to the Austrian.

The relaxation in the saddle of the V-Strom is immediately blown away, everything happens much more directly, you can feel the smallest information sparks of tires (Metzeler Tourance Next), chassis, frames, brakes, handlebars ... and is immediately on the search for the border area. The KTM rider irritates her and gives him a lot of confidence at the same time extremely. Already provokes you the first rear push tractor. On asphalt, the differences are marginal, on gravel drives the KTM Suzuki but loose it. World travel comes with both, the experience will be a very different and depends on the personal preferences. One enjoys more, the other guest more. And also enjoys. Image and source by; motorrad-bilder.at

I love the extra fuel capacity, ground clearance and switchable ABS on the KTM - but it wasn't around when I bought my (now modified) 2014 Vstrom 1000.
Both are exceptionally capable performers and a joy to own for those who tour with some off road adventures thrown in
